How it works
Tap or click the box to pick the document, then choose the new page size. The most common case is a PDF made abroad on A4 that has to print cleanly on US Letter, or go into a filing that asks for Letter: A4 is 210 × 297 mm (8.27 × 11.69 in), so it is slightly narrower and about two thirds of an inch taller than Letter. The tool scales each page to fit the new size with its proportions intact and centers it; going from A4 to Letter the content lands at about 94 percent with thin margins on the sides. Keeping proportions never cuts anything off. "No margins" fills the new page completely but trims whatever overflows, which is fine for documents with generous margins. The orientation choice handles mixed files: if landscape tables sit between portrait pages, "keep each page's own orientation" puts tables on landscape Letter and text on portrait Letter. Rotated scans are placed the way they appear on screen. The result line reports how many pages changed and at what scale. Pages are not turned into images, so text stays selectable and drawings stay sharp. Your file never leaves the browser.

What is PDF page size?
In a PDF every page carries its own size box, so one file can mix Letter, A4 and tabloid pages. Sizes are measured in points, 72 to the inch: a Letter page is 612 × 792 points, an A4 page 595 × 842. When the page box does not match the paper, a printer either crops the edge or shrinks the page by its own rules. Setting every page to the right size first makes the printout predictable.
What is Letter and Legal (US sizes)?
Letter and Legal are the inch-based paper sizes of the United States and Canada. Letter measures 8.5 × 11 inches (215.9 × 279.4 mm) and is the default for almost every office printer in North America; Legal is 8.5 × 14 inches and is still asked for by some courts, contracts and real-estate forms. A file made in Europe or Asia on A4 will often print on Letter with the bottom edge clipped unless it is resized first.
What is ISO 216 A sizes (A3, A4, A5)?
The A sizes come from the ISO 216 standard used in most countries outside North America. Folding one size in half gives the next: A3 (297 × 420 mm) folds into A4 (210 × 297 mm), A4 into A5 (148 × 210 mm). All A sizes share the same aspect ratio, so converting within the series fills the page with no margins at all — A3 to A4 simply scales to 71 percent.
What is the difference between A4 and Letter?
Letter (8.5 × 11 in, 215.9 × 279.4 mm) is the standard office paper in the US and Canada. A4 (210 × 297 mm) is the ISO 216 size used almost everywhere else. Letter is about a quarter inch wider; A4 is about two thirds of an inch taller, and their aspect ratios differ. Fitting one onto the other therefore leaves a thin margin in one direction, or cuts an edge if you fill the page instead. A4 content fits Letter at about 94 percent; Letter content fits A4 at about 97 percent — both too small a change to notice when reading.
Page size is not file size
"Resize PDF" can mean two different jobs, and mixing them up wastes time. This tool changes the paper size of each page — its width and height in inches or millimeters. It barely touches the file's weight in megabytes; shrinking an A3 drawing to Letter makes the page smaller, not the file.
If a PDF is too heavy to email or upload, what you need is compression; use the PDF compression tool for that. Sometimes you need both: resizing scanned tabloid pages to Letter and then compressing gives the smallest result.
One more limit: while each page is redrawn on its new size, links, comments and fillable form fields are not carried over. Everything visible — text, tables, a signature image — is on the new page, but a clickable link stops being clickable. Fill in and save a form first, then change its page size.
Which settings should you use?
When a court, school or agency asks for Letter-size PDFs, choose Letter, keep proportions, and keep each page's own orientation: nothing gets cut and landscape tables stay landscape. Keeping proportions may leave a few millimeters of margin, which nobody notices on paper.
Use "No margins" only when you are sure nothing important sits at the page edges. Text documents with wide margins are fine; a table or page number running to the edge could be clipped.
For booklets or handouts pick A5, for large drawings or poster drafts A3. Moving within the A series never distorts anything: an A4 page fits A5 at about 70 percent and A3 at 141 percent with almost no margin left over.
- Filing that requires Letter: Letter · own orientation · keep proportions
- Sending to Europe or Asia: A4 · own orientation · keep proportions
- Text with wide margins: "No margins" is fine too
- File too many MB: not this tool — use PDF compression
Frequently asked questions
How do I change a PDF from A4 to Letter?
Select the file, leave Letter as the new page size and press the button. Every page becomes 8.5 × 11 inches; pages with a different shape are scaled with their proportions kept and centered. The result line says how many pages were changed and at what scale.
Will the text get too small to read?
It shrinks only when the target is smaller, and only as much as the shape requires. A4 to Letter reduces content by about 6 percent, which you will not notice. Letter to A5 brings text down to about 69 percent — 11-point type looks like roughly 7.5 points, still readable on paper.
Does this make the file smaller in MB?
No. It changes the paper size of each page, not the weight of the file. For a PDF that is too large to email or upload, use the PDF compression tool.
Will landscape pages be squeezed onto portrait paper?
Not with the default setting. "Keep each page's own orientation" puts landscape pages on landscape paper and portrait pages on portrait paper. If you want every page the same way, choose "every page portrait" or "every page landscape"; a landscape table is then shrunk to fit a portrait page.
Are links and form fields kept?
No. Visible content is carried over exactly, but clickable links, comments and fillable fields do not survive the redraw. Fill in and save a form first, then change the page size.
