PDF to ODP (LibreOffice Impress)

Turn every PDF page into a LibreOffice Impress slide and keep the deck in an open format

Choose the PDF to convert to ODPTap or click the box — a file picker opens. You can also drag a file onto it.PDF — each page becomes one slide; slides are images, the text cannot be edited

Your files stay with you. Conversion happens inside the browser; no file is ever uploaded to a server.

How it works

This tool is for people who present with LibreOffice rather than PowerPoint, which is common in schools, public offices and on Linux: someone sent the deck as a PDF, and you want to show it in Impress, insert your own slides or annotate on top. Tap or click the box, choose the PDF and press Convert to ODP. Each page is rendered at the sharpness you picked and placed full size on its own slide; the slide size is set from the first page, so there are no empty margins. The result line reads, for example, "18 pages → 18 slides · 150 DPI · 2.9 MB". The text on each slide is part of the picture and cannot be edited, but you can add text boxes, arrows and shapes on top, and delete or reorder slides.

This tool is also known as pdf to odp, convert pdf to odp, pdf to libreoffice impress, pdf to open document presentation, open pdf in impress.

What is ODP (OpenDocument Presentation)?

ODP is the native presentation format of LibreOffice Impress and the presentation member of the OpenDocument family, an international standard (ISO/IEC 26300). The file is a ZIP package: content.xml describes the slides, styles.xml holds the slide size, and a Pictures folder holds the images. This tool builds the package in its simplest form, one slide per page and one picture filling each slide.

What is Slide size?

An Impress presentation has a single page size for all slides, such as 16:9 widescreen, 4:3 or A4. If a PDF page does not match it, the picture gets stretched or leaves a border. The tool takes the size from the first PDF page, so a widescreen deck gives widescreen slides and a portrait report gives portrait slides. A page with a different size later in the file is centered without cropping.

What is the difference between ODP and PPTX?

Both are ZIP packages with XML and images inside; the difference is whose standard they follow. PPTX is Microsoft PowerPoint's format, ODP is the format of LibreOffice and of the OpenDocument standard used by many governments and schools. PowerPoint opens ODP too, though some effects may look different. Here the slides are pictures anyway, so both formats look the same; choose the one that matches the program you will present with.

Why can't I edit the text on a slide?

A PDF stores the finished page. It does not know which text was a title box and which was a shape, so the tool renders each page as a picture: fonts, colors and positions never shift from one computer to another, but the words are no longer editable text.

To fix a single sentence, put a white-filled text box over it and type the new wording. If most of the deck needs rewriting, pull the text out with the PDF to ODT tool and build new slides from it.

Which sharpness should you choose?

Standard (150 DPI) turns a Letter page into about 1275 × 1650 pixels, which looks crisp on a laptop and on a classroom display. High (220 DPI) keeps footnote-sized text readable on a projector screen, at the cost of a file more than twice as large.

If you will send the deck by email or upload it to a learning platform, choose Standard; the actual size is shown in the result line.

  • Classroom or meeting-room screen: Standard
  • Large hall with a projector: High
  • Long document (60+ pages): Standard, to keep the file small

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a PDF in LibreOffice Impress?

Choose the PDF on this page, press Convert to ODP and double-click the downloaded .odp file. LibreOffice on its own opens PDFs in Draw; to get an Impress presentation you need this conversion.

Can PowerPoint open the ODP file?

Yes. PowerPoint 2010 and later open ODP files, and Google Slides reads an ODP uploaded to Drive. Because the slides are pictures, they look the same in every program.

Is the text editable?

No; each slide is a picture of the page. You can add new text, shapes and notes, and delete or reorder slides. To edit the wording itself, extract it with the PDF to ODT tool.

Is my PDF sent to a server?

No. Rendering the pages and building the ODP package both happen inside your browser; the file never leaves this page.
