Rotate PDF pages the right way up
Turn sideways or upside-down PDF pages the right way up
Your files stay with you. Conversion happens inside the browser; no file is ever uploaded to a server.

How it works
Tap or click the box and choose the file, then make two decisions: how far, and which pages. The angle follows what you see on screen — if the top of the page points to the right, a quarter turn clockwise puts it straight; if it points to the left, choose 270; if the writing is legible but upside down, 180 is the only answer. For scope there are three routes. "All pages" turns the whole document the same way and suits a file that was scanned sideways from start to finish. "Landscape pages only" finds the pages that are wider than they are tall and leaves the upright ones alone, which saves typing numbers in a long report with a couple of sideways tables. "The pages I list" takes a comma-separated list: 2-5,8 turns pages two to five and page eight. The label above the number box changes with the scope, so you never have to remember when a number is required. Rotating does not redraw the page; the angle recorded inside the document is updated. That has three consequences worth knowing: the file does not grow, text stays selectable, and scanned signatures do not blur by even a fraction. If a page was already rotated, the new angle is added to the old one, so what you see on screen is what turns. The result line reports how many pages were turned and by how much. Nothing is uploaded — reading and saving both happen in your browser.
This tool is also known as rotate pdf, rotate pdf pages and save, fix sideways pdf, turn pdf 90 degrees, upside down pdf fix, rotate scanned pdf permanently.
What is Page rotation angle?
The rotation angle is a piece of information stored with each page that tells readers and printers which way up to show it. The content itself never moves; only the presentation turns, much as you would turn a photograph in your hand. The valid values are 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees. Because the value lives in the file, a page corrected here also appears correctly on someone else's computer and on paper — unlike the rotate button in most viewers, which changes your own screen and writes nothing to the document.
What is Portrait and landscape pages?
A portrait page is taller than it is wide, which is how letters, forms and contracts are normally set. A landscape page is wider than it is tall and is used for broad tables, drawings and slide handouts. One document can hold both: a twenty-page report may have three landscape tables in the middle. The landscape-only option here compares the dimensions of each page and finds those pages by itself, leaving the portrait ones untouched, so a mixed document needs no page numbers at all.
What is Rotating the view versus rotating the document?
Almost every PDF reader has a rotate button, and in most of them it only turns the current view: close the window, open the file again and the page is sideways once more, and the person you send it to sees it sideways too. Rotating the document means writing the angle into the file itself, so the result is permanent and identical for everyone and every printer. This tool does the second kind. The file you download is the corrected document, and the recipient has to turn nothing.
Choosing the angle
The simplest method is to look at the top edge of the page, the side the heading sits on. If the heading faces the right edge of the screen the page has fallen anticlockwise, and a quarter turn clockwise fixes it. If it faces the left edge, the opposite applies and 270 is the value. When the writing is readable but upside down, 180 removes the need to think about left and right at all.
When you are unsure, trying is cheap: pick an angle, build the file and open it. If it came out the wrong way, go back to the original file rather than the result, because angles add up and two runs in a row can produce a total you did not intend.
What scans usually need
Scanners record the sheet the way it was fed, so a page fed on its side appears sideways in an otherwise upright document. With a sheet feeder the whole stack tends to lean the same way, and "all pages" finishes the job in one press. Photographs taken with a phone vary page by page, and there the list option is the honest route.
Some scans are not sideways but slightly crooked, a few degrees off true. This tool does not correct that; it applies quarter turns only. Unless the tilt makes the page hard to read, leaving it alone is the better call, because straightening a tilt means redrawing the page and giving up quality to do it.
The other common situation is a document where some pages have already been rotated. There the new angle is added to the existing one, so a page already turned 90 degrees ends up upside down if you add another 90. Reasoning from what you see on screen is always the safe approach.
- Heading on the right edge? 90°. On the left edge? 270°
- Readable but upside down? 180° is the only correct angle
- Mixed document? Try the landscape-only option first
- A few degrees of tilt cannot be fixed here — only quarter turns
Frequently asked questions
Does rotating reduce quality?
No. The page is not redrawn or turned into an image; the angle recorded in the document is updated. Text stays selectable and searchable, scanned signatures are not compressed again, and the file size barely changes. That is a clear advantage over methods that rasterise the page to turn it.
Why doesn't my reader's rotate button stick?
Because in most programs it only turns the current view and writes nothing to the file. Close the window and the setting is gone, and the person you send the document to still sees it sideways. This tool writes the angle into the document, so the file you download opens correctly everywhere.
Can I rotate a single page?
Yes. Set the scope to the pages you list and type the number; one page needs only its own number. Use commas for several pages and a hyphen for a run, as in 2-5,8. If a number does not exist in the document, no file is produced and you are told how many pages there are.
What counts as a landscape page?
The width and height as displayed are compared, and a page wider than it is tall counts as landscape. The calculation takes any existing rotation into account, so a portrait page already turned 90 degrees is correctly treated as landscape. If the document has no landscape pages, nothing is changed and a short explanation appears.
Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?
No. The tool stops on documents that ask for a password and says so. Save an unprotected copy from a program that can open the file and rotate that copy. Damaged or half-downloaded files also produce a clear warning rather than an empty document.
