How it works
A common case: you drafted a letter in a notes app, got text in an email, or copied an answer from an AI chat, and now someone wants it as a Word file. Paste the text into the left pane. The document is built as you type, and the result line shows how many paragraphs it found, which paper size and which font it used. Press Download and the .docx lands in your Downloads folder, named after the first line of your text, for example "Notice of Rent Increase.docx". The paragraph rule is simple: blocks separated by a blank line become separate paragraphs, while line breaks inside a block are kept. Address lines, a signature block or the lines of a poem therefore stay on their own lines. Tabs stay tabs. On this English page the paper is US Letter with 1-inch margins, the size American schools and offices expect; switch to A4 if the document is going to the UK or Europe.
This tool is also known as text to word, text to word converter, text to word file, convert text to docx, paste text into word document.
What is DOCX (Word document)?
DOCX is the Word format used since Word 2007. It looks like a single file, but inside it is a compressed package: the text, the style definitions and the page setup sit in separate XML files. This tool builds the smallest valid package, with the document body, the styles and the package list. Word, LibreOffice, Google Docs and phone apps all open it as editable text.
What is Paragraph vs. line break?
In Word, Enter starts a new paragraph, while Shift+Enter moves to a new line inside the same paragraph. The difference looks small, but paragraph spacing, indents, bullets and heading styles apply only to whole paragraphs. Plain text has no such distinction, which is why this tool reads a blank line as a paragraph and a single line break as a Shift+Enter break.
Text to Word vs. TXT to Word: what is the difference?
Both use the same Word writer; the difference is where the text comes from. On this page you type or paste text, the document is built as you type and the file is named after the first line. The TXT to Word tool reads .txt files from your disk instead, converts several files in one go, each into its own document, and also recognises files saved by old Notepad versions in ANSI encoding. Use that tool when you have files, and this page when you have copied text.
Line breaks, blank lines and paragraph spacing
Plain text has no paragraph mark, only line breaks. When this tool writes Word, a blank line marks the end of a paragraph. Lines typed one under another without a blank line stay inside the same paragraph, joined by a manual line break (the Shift+Enter break in Word). What you see in the text box is what you get in Word, and Word's paragraph spacing (8 pt after each paragraph) only applies to real paragraphs.
Two or more blank lines count as one separator, because spacing in Word is better handled by paragraph spacing than by empty paragraphs. If the text contains a form feed character, which old report programs use as a page break, the next paragraph starts on a new page.
If the text you copied is cut at the end of every line, which happens with some PDF and email copies, the lines stay short in Word too. Fix the source first, or remove the extra breaks in Word with Find and Replace.
- Blank line → new paragraph
- Single line break → new line in the same paragraph
- Tab → Word tab
- Form feed → new page
Which settings to choose
For a formal letter, an essay or a school paper, Times New Roman at 12 pt is the usual request, and many US schools ask for 1-inch margins, which Letter paper here already has. For everyday notes and reports, Word's own default, Calibri 11 pt, is fine. For older readers or a notice board, 14 pt is easier to read.
If the first line is the document's name, choose "Make it a heading": it becomes Word's Heading 1, shows up in the Navigation pane and is picked up by a table of contents. If the file is going to the UK, Europe or India, choose A4; Letter pages printed on A4 lose part of the bottom margin.
The font is referenced by name, not embedded. Calibri, Times New Roman and Arial come with every copy of Word, so the document looks the same on another computer.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert text to a Word document?
Paste the text into the left pane on this page and press Download. The tool writes it into an editable .docx file that goes to your Downloads folder and opens in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs. No sign-up and no upload.
Why are my paragraphs merged, or split too often?
A blank line marks a new paragraph. Blocks separated by a blank line become separate paragraphs in Word; line breaks inside a block are kept as they are. If everything ends up as one paragraph, put a blank line between paragraphs. If lines are split too often, the source text was cut at every line.
Will accented letters and symbols survive?
Yes. The Word file stores text as UTF-8, so letters such as é, ñ and ü, curly quotes, dashes and symbols such as € or © come through unchanged. The proofing language of the document is set to English (US).
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The Word file is created inside your browser; your text does not leave this page and is not stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded, the tool works even offline.
